Balcony Window
SERIES ÉTUDES AND VARIATIONS · EV04 · 2025
Watercolour on 100% cotton paper · 20 × 20 cm
This study focuses on the balance between architectural line and ornamental detail. The gentle curve of the window contrasts with the horizontal discipline of the wrought-iron balcony. The overall presence remains contained, almost silent.
The watercolor favors restraint: softened creams, muted grays, subtle shadows. The decorative railing becomes rhythm rather than ornament. Frontal composition is asserted without heaviness.
Within “Études and Variations,” this work deepens the investigation of structure and repetition. It evokes a timeless European façade, stripped of narrative and reduced to essential presence.
