Weathered Shutters I
SERIES ÉTUDES AND VARIATIONS · EV01 · 2025
Watercolour on 100% cotton paper · 30 × 30 cm
In this study, the frontal presence of an old window becomes a space of contemplation. The mineral surface of the façade enters into a quiet dialogue with the fragile, time-worn shutters. Controlled dilution allows the paper to breathe, suggesting light, erosion, and suspended stillness.
The work avoids anecdote in favor of balance: simple vertical rhythms, muted tones, and contained presence. The architectural fragment approaches abstraction, reduced to surfaces and tonal shifts.
Within “Études and Variations,” this piece functions as an intimate observation of material and threshold — a meditation on time inscribed in architecture.
